Rapper 1K Phew is a protege of Christian rap star Lecrea who integrates Atlanta’s trap sounds and swagger into faith-based music. 1K grew up in Lithonia, Georgia, approximately 20 miles east of Atlanta. He was raised in a church community. In his teens, he sold weed to pay for college. At a botched sale, the rapper’s car was shot at. Surviving the incident reinforced his faith and changed his path. He began sharing his personal stories and testimonies of faith on mixtape’s like 2015’s “Sunday Night” and 2016’s Life.
