Jabari Johnson is a Gospel singer , Grammy Award Winning Guitarist , Stellar Award Winning Artist , and Follower of Christ. He is a dynamic self-taught guitarist with a soul grabbing voice and infectious presence. A child of quartet music, Johnson was reared in Houston, TX and grew up singing, playing guitar, and performing. After years of playing and writing music in March of 2015 Jabari released his first single entitled “You are Holy”. In addition, he released a short EP including: “You Are Holy” “More of You” and “You’re Good” in March of 2016. Fast forward to 2017 Johnson emerged as a standout vocalist on social media and caught the eye of the Gospel music industry. In 2018 Johnson signed with Light Records and embarked on a new journey as an emerging artist. Johnson released his first national EP “Day Of Redemption” in 2018. His first single off the EP, “Have Your Way”, was a standout track that created a buzz around this new bright talent. In 2019 Johnson was nominated and won New Artist of The Year Award at the 34th Annual Stellar Awards ceremony. Johnson continued to build his fan base and showcase his dynamic talent through social media. He has enjoyed viral moments with social posts amassing thousands of views. In 2020 Johnson collaborated with Tobe Nwigwe on the viral hit “Try Jesus”, further cementing Johnson as an emerging influencer. In 2020 Johnson released his 3rd single titled, “Fixed Fight”. “Fixed Fight” served as an anthem of hope and victory during early days of the global pandemic. “Fixed Fight” galvanized many listeners with it’s catchy hook and bold declaration. It became a hit and gave Johnson his first #1 Billboard charting single at radio. Johnson is prepping to release his new project soon. His new single , “One Touch” will impact radio in the fall of 2021.
Jabari Johnson is currently the lead guitarist at The Potter’s House under the leadership of Bishop T.D. Jakes in Dallas, TX. He has had the awesome privilege of playing/singing for award-winning artists such as: Kierra Sheard, Myron Williams, Kim Burrell, John P Kee, Myron Butler, Tye Tribbett, J.J. Hairston, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, J Drew Sheard, Tweet, Maranda Curtis, Ricky Dillard, Nestor Torres, Leela James, Tweet, The Walls Group, Michael Dixon, Cuba Gooding Sr., Kirko Bangz and Lela James. Television appearances include performances with Bishop T.D. Jakes & Megafest Faith, Family, Film Festival, Tye Tribbett, The Clark Sisters, and Fred Hammond. After years of playing and writing music, on March 20th, 2015, Jabari released his first single entitled “You are Holy”. This song created a buzz throughout the gospel industry and so many opportunities presented themselves. In addition, he released “You Are Holy” “More of You” and “You’re Good” on March 25, 2016. Jabari is a
vessel willing, ready and able to be used by God and gives God the glory for his growth and progression in life and endeavors.
A session and sideman guitarist as well as solo artist, Jabari Johnson’s solo contemporary gospel music merges rock, contemporary R&B, and worship music. He made his solo debut with 2019’s Day of Redemption as a member of Bishop T.D. Jakes’ church band.
A native of Houston, Texas, Jabari Johnson started singing and playing music at the age of three. When he was eight, he and his brother, Nicholas Johnson, formed the vocal quartet the Johnson Brothers, who went on to share billing with the likes of Lee Williams and the Canton Spirituals. Later, as the lead guitarist at The Potter’s House in Dallas, he performed not only with the church founder T.D. Jakes but such gospel chart-topping acts as Kirk Franklin, Tori Kelly, and Ricky Dillard, just to name a few.
From a Different Place
In 2015, Johnson released his first solo single, “You Are Holy.” That same year, he played guitar on Kim Burrell’s album From a Different Place, among other session work. His own follow-up singles “More of You” (featuring Carvena Jones & Tela) and “You’re Good” (featuring Michael Dixon) appeared in 2016, and he recorded with artists including Ricky Dillard and JJ Hairston on their 2017 releases. The next year, his guitar work could be heard on Tori Kelly’s gospel number one, Hiding Place, and he co-wrote a track for Cadillac Muzik’s album Lac Gospel. Johnson’s first solo album, Day of Redemption, saw release in 2019 via Light Records.
Jabari Johnson spends most Sunday mornings helping to usher in worship at The Potter’s House, one of the largest and most influential churches in the country. After releasing a number of independent singles, he has released his debut album, Day of Redemption, on eOne Nashville’s Light Records. Day of Redemption is a tightly focused worship journey that unleashes Johnson’s versatile musical style, steeped in tradition with inflections of contemporary praise, and worship. With songs that are fresh and familiar at the same time, Day of Redemption features standout tracks that include “Jesus,” which is Johnson’s rendition of the classic hymn “The Solid Rock,” the spare, folksy “Things Change,” and the buoyant “Your Love Never Fails.” The title track is an up-tempo gem taking listeners back “to the day they first believed.”
