BIGSONG:
South African house DJ and producer Prince Kaybee became a star of the country’s club scene in the mid-2010s following the release of his hit collaboration with Lady Zamar, “Charlotte.” His sleek dance tracks continued to find an audience with subsequent hits like “Club Controller” and “Banomoya” from his 2019 album Re Mmino.
Born Kabelo Motsamai in the town of Senekal in Free State, South Africa, he is the youngest of 36 siblings from his father. He found a job working as a DJ at a club in Bloemfontein and later bought a laptop and began to teach himself how to produce electronic dance music. Using the name Prince Kaybee, he began to establish himself, DJing shows and landing tracks on various compilations in 2014. His first big hit came in 2016 with the Lady Zamar collaboration “Charlotte,” which earned him several Metro FM Music Award nominations. His success continued over the next few years with tracks like “Yonkinto” featuring Zanda and his 2017 debut album, I Am Music. Kaybee’s 2019 album Re Mmino yielded a number of additional hits with “Club Controller” featuring LaSoulMates, TNS, and Zanda Zakuza being the most prominent. Later that year, he stretched out a bit stylistically with the Crossover Music EP.
